Previous to that, she had her first child Ryan throughout her student years at Mt. Holyoke College. Having a child while being a student was not easy for her.

She was just a college student and she was all alone with two kids and no support from her friends or family. It was when her father suffered a heart attack that Marcelo realized the lack of care systems but she was not ready yet.

Since her occupation was engrained to technology, Marcela knew that was the solution, in 2006 she founded Care.com. Today’s world’s biggest online destination to find and manage family care, with over 18.4 million associates through 16 countries.

In 2010 she founded Womenup.org in order to give women a major part in global Economy. This program offers mentorship and leadership training; furthermore it supports women and girls through every step of their careers and their lives.

Marcelo has even worked at the White House along with President Obama. She has been granted about 20 awards including the Filipino Heritage Award and Women of Excellence by the National Council.
