Known for being the creator of the website by the name of Craigslist, where you can find anything and everything. From a roommate to a girlfriend and of course jobs but that is not all, you can also look for community, services, gigs, housing and sell what you do not need anymore.
Craig was born in New Jersey and had a pretty normal childhood. He lived with his mother and his brother. Money did not come easy to Craig’s mother after the dead of his father. Newmark managed to graduate at the Case Western Reserve University due to a scholarship. He got both science and master degrees from such Alma matter.
Craig worked at IBM for 17 years; his job there was as a programmer. One day he decided to move to San Francisco, there he got his hands on a new groundbreaking tool known as the internet. While spending time on the net, Newmark came up with the idea of a place where people could exchange information and created Craigslist in 1995, which has been described as a commune within the World Wide Web.
However, the website began as something different from what we know today. At first it was just a list to share e-mails amongst friends. As time went by Craig noticed how some people used to share different kinds of information and created the jobs category and so it began. Other categories were implanted as a response to the user’s demands. A year later the now extremely trendy site named Craigslist was launched.
To Craig, it was just a hobby. He had a job as a software engineer and of course as a programmer, until he decided to commit to Craigslist fulltime in 1999. The site continued to grow and expanded throughout the globe, plus the list of categories within the website kept growing and growing. As for today you can find it over 70 countries, making it the top classified service in the world.
