The life of Hugo Barra, the man that created Android to dominate the operating systems of the mobile industry, is made of sudden decisions and even incomprehensible in some ways. Like the one that led him to accept the offer of Xiaomi, the so-called Chinese Apple.
Hugo Barra was born in Brazil, and from an early age he showed a particular passion for the computing world. To cultivate this passion, he moved to the United States, where he graduated in Computer Science and Electrical Engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (also known as the MIT) at the Sloan School of Management he also obtained a degree in Managerial Sciences.
Right after he graduated, Hugo Barra collaborated with multinationals such as Netscape Communications, Walt Disney Imagineering and McKinsey & Co. In 2000 he founded his first company “Lobby7” and he developed software for mobile phones and smartphones. In 2003 the company was incorporated by Nuance, where he took on the role of director of development of mobile applications. Barra was particularly interested in voice messaging for the smartphone sector.
During this experience, Barra acquired and developed certain different techniques; in 2008 he made his entrance into the world of the great Google family. Here he soon became part of the Android development team and, within a few months, he became responsible for the management and development.
Barra has mad phew comments about his decision to say goodbye to the Android Company and dive impulsively into a new adventure, a more challenging one of course. His arrival to Xiaomi was read and interpreted in dozens of ways, but it is still a bit of a mystery why Hugo decided to drop everything and join the Chinese company. Either way, Hugo has a bright future ahead of him as we still read about him in technology blogs and more.
